Rusticks was opened in 1992 by Ann and Rody Sherrill from Lookout Mountain, TN.  The couple had bought a second home in Highlands, NC, which Ann decorated in a casual rustic style using hand-crafted hickory, cedar and willow pieces with a mix of antiques.

Visitors to their mountain getaway expressed a keen interest in and desire for this rustic, yet sophisticated look.  Ann and Rody, a recently retired corporate executive, were exploring options for a joint business venture and found the idea of offering "mountain rustic" to others through a retail shop intriguing.  With encouragement from their close friend and noted area architect Tim Greene, Rusticks was conceived.

The original shop was in a small, almost attic-like second floor space above Greene & Associates architectural offices in Chestnut Square in Cashiers, NC.  Rusticks was expanded in 1994 and again in 1996 at this same location.

In May 2000, Rusticks expanded yet again by opening in a spectacular new location at Canoe Point on Cashiers Lake in its own Adirondack style building, designed and built by Greene & Associates.  In February 2006, the second floor showroom was expanded to create more space for new product lines.  The 2016 season marks Rusticks 25th year in business.
